Who gets elected in Vermont?
There are two types of elected offices: Partisan and Non-partisan. For partisan offices you must declare which political party you are affiliated with. For non-partisan offices there are no political party affiliations. Several of the offices have more than one position. In the list below the number following the office name shows how many positions are available each election. Town Meeting elections are held every March. The general election is in November. Local Non-partisan offices
Colchester School Board: five members with staggered two and three year terms elected at Town meeting election.
Colchester Selectboard: Six members, one of which is a student. Staggered two and three year terms elected at Town meeting election.
Partisan Offices
Local
Colchester Justice of the Peace : Fifteen members elected every two years at Town Meeting election.
Representation to the State
State Representative: Four from Colchester with two from each of the two Colchester voting districts.
State Senator: One for all of Colchester elected every two years at November general election.
Chittenden County Offices
Sherriff: One for Chittenden County elected every two years
High Bailiff; One for the county elected every two years
