Thank you Senator Mazza

The Colchester Democrats wish to express heartfelt gratitude to Senator Mazza for his enduring dedication to serving Colchester and the Champlain Islands. His exceptional leadership, both in our local community and in Montpelier, will be remembered and cherished for years to come. 

While we know that the Senator can never truly be replaced,  we also understand that representation for the people of Colchester and the Champlain Islands in the State House is important to him and, to all of you.   It is for that reason that we provide this update: 

Following the announcement of the Senator’s resignation the Colchester Democrats received a request from the Governor’s Office to provide the names three individuals from Colchester willing and capable of filling the role for the remainder of the term.  

While not mandatory, the customary practice in such situations has been for the Governor to appoint a nominee from the same party or parties as the outgoing member.  As of April 11, 2024 the Colchester Democrats have responded to the Governor’s request with the following names:  Sarita Austin, Julie Hulburd, and Curt Taylor. 

We understand the Grand Isle County Democrats received a similar request and have also responded.  Should we receive follow up information from the Governor’s Office, we will be sure to keep our neighbors in informed.  

In the meantime, our thoughts are with the Senator, his family and close friends.  Senator Mazza embodies the heart and soul of our community, and for that, we are profoundly grateful.
